Finding Identity

He wasn’t always a good person

or more accurate to say

he denied he was a good person

and played that part too well

that his unconscious

would torment his dreams

for going against his true nature

was an inevitable consequence

of his chosen lot,

not by chance,

by purpose and alternative

he always had to learn lessons

the hard way, edification by whip

always too damn stubborn

too arrogant to accept

a gentler way of life

how does the saying go?

knowing now, what he didn’t know then…

doesn’t change a damn thing

except where he goes from here

onward towards uncertainty

of his own creation
